Carlos Clayton Macedo de Freitas MD, PhD, Professor of Neurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology (INR) since 2002 in Sao Paulo State University, Brazil. Director of Interventional Neuroradiology Fellowship program at Hospital das Clínicas, Sao Paulo State University, Brazil.
Dr Carlos Freitas started his medical education at Pernambuco Medical School, Brazil, and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine in 1993. Concluded Medical Residence in Neurosurgery in 1999 and Master in Surgery (MS) in 2002, at Sao Paulo State University.
Training in Interventional Neuroradiology (INR) in Nancy - France in 2005 and 2006, with Prof. Luc Picard and Prof. Serge Bracard, and after that, he was invited to be Professeur des Universités Henri Point Care in France and Praticien Hospitalier at Centre Hopitalier Université des Nancy, where he shared many years of experience and expertise to improve and make positive impacts on department operations.
At the moment he is focused on diagnosis and treatment of various brain, spine and hear/neck vascular malformations conditions, including venous and pediatric vascular malformation, brain aneurysm, brain AVM, carotid stenosis, intracranial atherosclerosis and treatment of intracranial vessel occlusion.
In December 2007, he created the Department of Interventional Neuroradiology in Botucatu Medical School, developing in hospital many clinical protocols for stroke care, providing assistance to more than 2 million inhabitants in Sao Paulo State. In consequence of that, the mortality and morbidity related to cerebro vascular disease reduced, as it has shown in many articles published.

PhD in Medical Science in 2018 at Sao Paulo State University and Director of INR fellowship program of Brazilian Society of Neuroradiology since 2019, he decided to dedicate part of his carrier to national educational programs promoting many short meetings, hands-on courses, national and international symposiums, on-line trainings in many regions of Brazil and other countries.
As Member at Large of SBNR, he leaded the group of professionals that developed the Competency based curriculum in 2019, the new platform of training has been applied in 26 training centers in Brazil.
Since 2019, as well-qualified professional focused on developing new methods to teach using simulators. In collaboration with companies and societies, he has been developing many fellow training courses for developing skills in Brazil and South America.
As vice president in 2022 - 2023 and current President of SBNR he has established many educational relationships with international societies as ESNR (Institutional Council and Presidents’ Meeting), SFNR, CANI, SPNR, GSANIT with the mission to share educational methodology and to create a similar and global curriculum.
Currently, he has been participating in several clinical trials in Brazil and also has been a reviewer member of some important scientific magazines as: Cerebrovascular Diseases, Frontiers Newsletter, American Journal of Neuroradiology, Arq Neuropsiquiatr, J Vasc Bras. and others.
Project for the next 2 years (2025 and 2026).
Capable of managing projects and collaborating effectively with national and international teams, he will start a project in South America and developing countries to create many Associations or Societies in Neuroradiology to promote the Educational and Professional Protection of good practice in Medicine. Unfortunately nowadays, South America is composed of 12 countries and only 4 countries (Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Argentina) has a Neuroradiology Society.
To conclude my summary, I would like to quote an African proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go in a group".
