Currently, I am the K9 Unit Supervisor and Lead Trainer at a Brazilian Air Force base, responsible for managing the kennel operations and training detection dogs specialized in narcotics, explosives, and firearms and ammunition detection.
Instructor for the Brazilian Air Force's annual Basic K9 Training Course, since 2022, delivering comprehensive training and guidance to new K9 handlers, focusing on essential skills and operational readiness.
Performed routine training exercises with the canine to ensure proficiency in identifying explosives, narcotics, firearms, and ammunition.
Assisted in the detection and prevention of drug smuggling activities at airports and other locations, including being responsible for handling narcotics detection dogs during security operations at Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport as part of a federal law and order enforcement mission in 2023.
Developed hands-on experience in narcotics detection during a K9 trainer certification course, collaborating with the Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport. Received training from their professionals and operated alongside them in real-time detection operations.
Trained dogs in obedience, agility, and task-specific skills according to established protocols.
Conducted military working dogs in basic obedience, tracking, patrol exercises and apprehension techniques.
Performed searches of vehicles, buildings, open areas, cargo containers using explosive detection canines.
Ensured that the Military Working Dogs were given proper nutrition, exercise, and medical care.
Conducted daily health checks to ensure dogs' well-being and identify any signs of illness or injury.
Managed grooming tasks including bathing, brushing, and nail trimming to maintain dogs' hygiene, as well as maintenance tasks such as cleaning kennels and feeding dogs.
Administered medications and first aid as needed under veterinary guidance.
Organized or conducted animal shows.
Used food and toy rewards, humane training tools, and verbal and leash corrections to teach dogs behaviors.
Facilitated socialization exercises to enhance dogs' interactions with humans and other animals.
Educated clients about canine behavior and positive reinforcement training methodologies.
