That included, but was not limited to liaising with key department inside the consulate, such as housing, customs and shipping, human resources, IT and facilities to make sure we had everything needed to welcome the families arriving in Rio and prepare their departures once it was their time to leave the country.
My job also consisted in make the first contact with the diplomats when they were assigned to come to Brazil. I was their main point of contact to answer any questions they had about their work in Rio, the city itself and local procedures. Furthermore, I was also responsible to prepare their accreditation before the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Last, when it was time for them to depart Brazil I was responsible to assist them with their moving back to the U.S or to their next post.
The customs and shipping unit takes care of all shipments to and from Rio de Janeiro.
As a shipping clerk I was responsible for the preparation of the paperwork needed for customs clearance of incoming and outbound shipments for U.S. personnel, including office material, supplies, personal effects and equipment for the entire U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro.
